Intentional Parenting

Hey everyone, how are you?

This generation of parents – we seem more concerned with raising children in ways outside our parents ways. While we all love our parents, we can all agree that they did the best they knew….I am not one of those people who will sit and say my folks did all right or wrong. They did what they could.

Now to the real issue…what are you doing as a parent that is deliberate? That is leading your children in what you believe is the right direction? For me, manners and courtesy are a big deal. After papa, my childrens first words were please and thank you. I call my 2nd baby girl the chief beggar in charge. She can plead fifty times till you give her what she is looking for.

I also remember listening to the likes of Shina Peters singing figure 8 sepe sepe figure 8! Yep think about that song and the lyrics – we all knew the song as little children and a few others we had no business singing. And the DJs played them at children’s parties. My children only watch Disney, Jimjam and the occasional CNN with their dad. Considering they don’t go to creche, the nannies have no control over the TV as I work from home.

I have been reading to my kids since they were about 3 months old. I used to lay on the floor between them durring their tummy time and read baby books out loud. I have continued with the practice and we read a minimum of 2 books and the Bible daily. Folks always say children don’t understand, it’s a big lie. My chief beggar in charge yells “cookoorukoo” when you offer her chicken or she hears a cock crow. Likewise she has been barking back at her grandmas dogs for the last 7 months easily. She also loves to chase “izards” when we have our outdoor time during the day.

My girls like to play ball, ride their bikes and swim. They had a 2 week cold, so we haven’t been in the pool lately.

I am working on changing our household menu- adults and kids. God help me because these my girls can be picky eaters sometimes.

How is your week?

Sorry for disappearing, work is demanding a lot these days and I am grateful

Thumbs up Pynk for taking active steps to ensure your daughters are educated rightly. I love the part of the Bible that says ‘….train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he would not depart from it.’ An investment in the early developmental years of a child literally reaps a lifetime worth of benefits.

PS: Glad to have you back. Doing well here. Last semester in school so looking forward to gaining a good job after.
