Humility

I was having a conversation with my mom about humility and she was giving me the foreigner’s perspective on Nigerians and pride. Somehow today’s reading for my bible plan is apt….we often need to be reminded. …it’s a Joyce Meyer plan…

God Gives Grace to the Humble

First Peter 5:5 tells us that God “sets Himself against the proud, but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble.” And anyone who thinks they’re a self-made man or woman has a rude awakening coming because Jesus said, “…Apart from Me [cut off from vital union with Me] you can do nothing” (John 15:5 AMP).

When we live in pride, trying to succeed without God’s help, we’re left open to so many attacks of the enemy. But humility is a covering that draws the help of God into our lives to protect us. When we humble ourselves by saying, “God, I don’t know what to do, and I’m trusting You,” God will help us.

God won’t allow us to succeed at anything unless we’re leaning and relying on Him. But when we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, in due time, He will exalt us (see 1 Peter 5:6). “Due time” is God’s time, when God knows we’re ready, not when we think we’re ready. The sooner we understand and accept that, the sooner God can work out His plan in our lives.

Prayer Starter: God, I humble myself before You, knowing that You will exalt me in due time. I can’t succeed on my own. I need Your help.

Earlier this morning a frirnd was telling me about his cousin who was holier than holy but busy fornicating. Yoruba Muslim guy,  got a young Igbo girl pregnant while in University – presurrised the girl to have an abortion at 4 months. Anyway he went on to marry a “pious” young woman of his liking and 20 odd years later they have no kids….

Let’s remember to deal with folks with humility. Very little in this life is of our doing, lest we forget.

Welcome to December – I am wishing us all a happy month filled with great things. Please if you are in Nigeria over the holidays, stay safe and be vigilant at all times….I will be resting in my house for the most part….i have one or two really nice winners Wednesdays coming up so stay tuned.

Happy New Month all. I am wishing us all a splendid one filled with thanksgiving, a lot of humility and God’s special love. Humility, just like Crimson has said – cannot be over emphasized.

  6. Happy new month everyone….
I love what this part of the devotion says….
“God won’t allow us to succeed at anything unless we’re leaning and relying on Him. But when we humble ourselves under the mighty hand of God, in due time, He will exalt us (see 1 Peter 5:6). “Due time” is God’s time, when God knows we’re ready, not when we think we’re ready. The sooner we understand and accept that, the sooner God can work out His plan in our lives.”

It reminds me of times when I thought I could fix life n it’s issues on my own, but recent happenings have made me understand that without God, my ‘superwoman powers’ is nothing, so I’m gradually learning to know when to LET GO AND LET GOD HANDLE IT.
